Running SCO UnixWare 2.1.X applications

Running SCO UnixWare 2.1.X applications

This topic is part of Porting, integration, and compatibility.

This section tells you how the UnixWare 7 kernel, libraries, and execution environment provide compatibility for applications developed using the SCO UnixWare 2.1.X Software Development Kit.

SCO UnixWare 2.1.X application binaries should run without modification on UnixWare 7. See ``Binary compatibility'' for more information.

SCO UnixWare 2.1.X application source code should compile using the UnixWare and OpenServer Development Kit with minor modifications. See ``Source compatibility'' for more information.

Compatibility exceptions

The following list is a brief summary of the known compatibility exceptions for SCO OpenServer application binaries and source code in UnixWare 7:

General exceptions:

Graphics:
Applications that used SCO UnixWare 2.1.X Drag and Drop will not work on UnixWare 7.

Internationalization:
If you specify an SCO OpenServer long name as the locale, SCO UnixWare 2.1.X apps will not work properly.

Online help:
SCO UnixWare 2.1.X-style help from a graphics application is not supported; the application should still install and run correctly otherwise. Requesting help silently fails. There is also no support for SCO UnixWare 2.1.X help or DynaText(TM) source files that contain the documentation and other support files (such as annotations).
