Release 7.1 New Features

Release 7.1 New Features

This topic provides information about new features which have been incorporated into the UnixWare 7 Release 7.1 UnixWare and OpenServer Development Kit:

libc updates
printf(3S) is enhanced to add a format specifier from the upcoming revised C standard. A memory fault feature has been added to malloc(3C).

C compilation system updates
There have been updates to the compiler and optimizer, and to lint(1) and ld(1).

C++ compilation system updates
The C++ compiler has been updated, adding a number of new language features, such as explicit template function arguments, language interpretations for auto_ptr, and overloading on enum types. The compiler conforms to most, but not all, of International Standard ISO/IE C 14882 : 1998, Programming Language - C++.

X Development System
Bug fixes have been made in the xdevsys package.

Desktop Management Interface (DMI) 2.0 support
UnixWare 7 Release 7.1 enables system developers to create and distribute the Desktop Management Interface (DMI) 2.0 technology on the UnixWare operating system, integrate Desktop Management Interface Service Providers (DMISP) with their products, and integrate DMI enabled management applications onto their systems.

Enhanced Event Logging System (EELS)
The Enhanced Event Logging System provides an infrastructure with two APIs that provide kernel and user level interfaces to event logging subsystems. The APIs support the XDAS and the EELS proprietary interface.

All the XDAS API routines are available from user level, and a subset are available for use from the kernel level.

EELS conforms to the following Distributed Audit Service (XDAS) categories as defined by The Open Group:

Filtering functionality is provided by EELS and is not duplicated by supporting ``XDAS Filter Management Conformance''. The XDAS Specification Version 9 is available in full from http://www.opengroup.org/pubs/.

EELS defines additional logging routines to that of XDAS. All EELS proprietary API routines are available from user level and kernel level.
