Linking and testing SCO OpenServer 5 drivers

NOTE: This chapter has not been reviewed for the current release. The information is generally accurate, although some details may have changed. Check the appropriate manual pages for the most current information.

Producing a device driver can be broken down into several stages of development:

  1. Link your driver into the kernel, and test it on a target system with the requisite hardware. This is the subject of this chapter.

  2. If the driver is to be linked at boot time (a boot-time loadable driver or BTLD), create a BTLD disk image and test it on the target system. This stage is described in ``Boot-time loadable drivers''.

  3. Package the driver so that it can be installed using custom(ADM) or loaded as a BTLD. Test install this on the target system. This stage is described in ``Packaging SCO OpenServer 5 drivers for installation''.
