HBA certification test prerequisites

CDROM test prerequisites

Hardware Software Time

  • CD-ROM drive

  • Test CD-ROM media

  • System running SVR5
SDI target driver for the CD-ROM device being tested

  • 15 minutes for all CD-ROM tests other than the stress test.

  • 1 hour per iteration of the stress test.

cdrom test notes

When prompted, insert the Test CD-ROM media in the drive.

Floppy disk test prerequisites

Hardware Software Time

  • 1.2MB or 1.44MB floppy drive

  • 1.2MB, 1.44MB, 360KB, 720KB floppy disks

  • System running SVR5

  • Appropriate number of formatted floppy disks to store approximately 1.6MB of data
SDI target driver for the floppy disk drive being tested. Approximately 60 minutes for one iteration of the floppy test, plus the time you define for the execution of the stress test.

floppy disk test notes

Insert a UNIX formatted, write-enabled floppy disk into the drive being tested before starting the tests.

Know which floppy drive is being used for testing (either drive 0 or drive 1).

Be sure that no filesystem is mounted as /mnt. The floppy tests expect /mnt to be available for its use.

Hard disk test prerequisites

Hardware Software Time

  • One hard disk that is not the boot disk. This is the disk under test. All data on this disk will be destroyed by the tests.

  • One hard disk controller (SCSI or non-SCSI, depending on the disk being tested).

  • System running SVR5. SDI target driver for the controller being tested.
SDI target driver for the floppy disk drive being tested. 1 hour for all hard disk tests other than the stress test. The stress test requires about 2 hours.

Hard disk test notes

The hd tests must be conducted on a hard disk other than the boot drive, because absolute read/write operations are performed and any filesystems present on the disk will be destroyed.

Manual test prerequisites

Hardware Software Time

  • 1 drive for each of the SVR5 installation media (1/4" tape and CD-ROM)

  • 1 device (tape, CD-ROM, hard disk) for each SCSI channel supported by the HBA

  • Maximum number of HBAs supported by the driver being tested

  • Maximum number of devices (tape, CD-ROM, hard disk) supported by the driver on any one channel

  • System running SVR5

  • SVR5 distribution media (tape or CD-ROM)

  • HBA driver being tested.

  • Target drivers for each peripheral device being tested with this HBA.
Variable.

Manual test notes

The manual tests are different from the other hbacert tests in that significant setup needs to be done on the system before executing these tests. They are still run from the run_tests menu.

SDI extensions test prerequisites

Hardware Software Time

  • One system running SVR5. If the machine is a multiprocessor machine, at least two CPUs must be installed.

  • Two SDI peripheral devices. An SDI peripheral device is one that is controlled by a driver that conforms to the SDI specification.
SDI target driver for the peripheral device being tested. Approximately 5 minutes for the all scenario. Scenarios MPUP_01 through MPUP_04 may take up to 30 minutes each.

Tape test prerequisites

Hardware Software Time

  • 1 tape drive and 1 controller that are to be tested.

  • 1 cartridge tape for this drive

  • System running SVR5
SDI target driver for the tape device being tested. 1.5 hours for all tape tests other than the stress test. Each iteration of the stress test for a 150MB tape takes about 1.5 hours.

Precertification test prerequisites

Hardware Software Time

  • System running SVR5

  • One floppy drive.

  • One floppy disk that contains the Driver Software Package for the HBA driver being installed. None of the drivers in the HBA floppy should be installed on the system and loaded.

  • If the drivers on the floppy have a dependency on one or more other drivers, those required drivers must be installed prior to starting the precertification tests.

  • All packaging (e.g., pkgadd, etc.) tools must be installed.
Variable, but usually about 10 minutes per driver.

Precertification test notes

The precert tests verify that the DSP is complete and valid. Insert the floppy that contains the HBA DSP in the floppy drive before starting the tests.

The precert tests are run outside of the ETET environment, so there are no configuration files. There are two groups of precert tests: automatic and manual.

Setup and execution of the automatic precert tests is described in: precert/doc/autohba.doc. Setup and execution of the manual precert tests is described in: precert/doc/manhba.doc.

During testing, you may need to change some of the installation default settings on the HBA floppy. This information is found in the file precert/doc/hba.set.
