Hot removing a storage device with sdirm

To hot remove a storage device from a system:

1. Ensure that removing the device will not alter the SCSI bus termination. The device cannot be removed if the SCSI bus termination will be altered.

2. Type
   
   /sbin/sdirm device alias|device number

   If the command fails because either the target or HBA driver does not support hot removal, then the device cannot be removed. If the command fails because the device is open, then correct this before re-executing the command. sdirm will quiet the SCSI bus and notify you when it is safe to remove the device from the system. See sdirm(1M) for information about options.

3. Physically remove the device from the SCSI bus.

4. Press <Enter> to inform sdirm that the device has been removed and normal SCSI bus operation may resume.

5. If you removed a device that contained filesystems, edit /etc/vfstab and remove references to filesystems that are no longer on the system.
