Administering BNU

Database support files

Setting up the Basic Networking Utilities involves configuring the database support files in the /etc/uucp directory.

Some of the system-supplied BNU database support files contain default configuration data; other files contain only comment lines.

Some of the system-supplied files, such as the /etc/uucp/Poll file, typically can be used without modification. Other files, such as the /etc/uucp/Systems file, must be configured manually by the system administrator before BNU can be used.

Setting up the Permissions(4bnu), Devconfig(4bnu), Sysfiles(4bnu), and Limits(4bnu) and adding uucp logins are principal functions of the initial BNU setup process.

The permissions on networking devices should be 0600, with the owner set to root.

For information about the format and contents of the BNU database support files, see Section 4bnu manual pages.
