Configuring terminal line settings

Each ttymon port monitor that is started by the SAC daemon looks in its own administrative file for the TTY ports it has to initialize. For each TTY port that it initializes, ttymon searches the ttydefs file for the information it needs to set terminal modes and line speeds. ttymon then waits for service requests. When a service request is received and after the requester is authenticated, ttymon executes the command (usually /usr/bin/shserv) associated with the port that received the request.

From the system administration point of view, the key elements in managing terminal line settings are the ttydefs file and the sttydefs command, which maintains the ttydefs file.
