Administering Remote Procedure Calls (RPC)

Enabling a Secure RPC server

The RPC server /usr/sbin/rpcbind and other RPC servers are started at system boot time when the system comes up in init state 2 by entries in the script /etc/rc2.d/S75rpc. The system administrator can edit this script to start additional servers.

The server keyserv must run for Secure RPC to work. To have keyserv start at boot time, remove the comment character ``#'' from the following lines in the S75rpc script:

   #     if [ -x /usr/sbin/keyserv ]
   #     then
   #             /usr/sbin/keyserv
   #     fi
keyserv will run when you next reboot the system.

To start keyserv from the command line without rebooting the system, enter:

/usr/sbin/keyserv
