Configuring incoming call services

Configuring incoming call services

The Service Access Facility (SAF) is used by UnixWare to control access through ports to terminals, modems and network services (such as printer requests). Under the SAF, a port only has one service associated with it.

The monitor for a port grants and denies access, keeps track of usage, and provides information about availability to administrative programs that need to use the port. When a port monitor detects an incoming call on a port, it transfers control to the processes (for example, the login program) that provide the required services.

The ttymon(1M) port monitor provides access to the login services needed by modems and terminals on the /dev/ttyN ports. (See ``Administering the ttymon port monitor''.) The isdnmon(1M) port monitor deals with ISDN connections on the /dev/netN ports. (See ``Troubleshooting ISDN connections''.)

This topic describes the Incoming Call Services (ICS) interface for handling incoming call requests over directly connected serial lines, modems and ISDN channels. This extends the functionality of the SAF by providing flexibility in specifying a number of services for a port.
