Managing file interactions with make

Continuation lines

If a noncomment line is too long, the line can be continued by using the symbol ``\'', which must be the last character on the line. If the last character of a line is ``\'', then it, the new-line, and all following blanks and tabs are replaced by a single blank. Comments can be continued on to the next line as well.
