System directories and files

Directories in /usr

The /usr directory is part of the root filesystem, and includes the following architecture-dependent and architecture-independent files, system administration databases, and directories that can be shared.

/usr/add-on

The /usr/add-on directory contains add-on programs.

/usr/bin

This directory contains public commands and system utilities.

/usr/ccs

The /usr/ccs directory contains binaries and libraries from the Optimizing C Compilation System.

/usr/dt

This directory contains information used during CDE desktop installation. Ordinarily, system administrators have no need to modify these files. Site-specific customization should be made to files in /etc/dt instead.

/usr/gnu

This directory contains GNU library and utilities.

/usr/include

This directory contains public header files for C programs.

/usr/internet

This directory hierarchy is used for virtual domains existing on the same machine. Configuration for ftp servers and web servers on each virtual domain exist under /usr/internet.

/usr/local

the /usr/local directory is the recommended location for site-specific software and files. On installation, UnixWare® 7 and software applications should not put anything in this directory by default.

/usr/mmdf

This directory contains the MMDF (Multichannel Memorandum Distribution Facility) compatible configuration file mmdftailor for use with SCO OpenServer MMDF compatible mail user agents.

/usr/src

This directory contains source code for utilities and libraries.

/usr/ucb

This directory contains binaries from the BSD Compatibility Package.

/usr/ucbinclude

This directory contains header files from the BSD Compatibility Package.

/usr/ucblib

This directory contains libraries from the BSD Compatibility Package.

/usr/X

This directory contains information used by the X server and clients. Ordinarily, system administrators have no need to modify files in this directory.
