Managing system performance

Enabling and disabling the sampling mechanism (prfstat)

The prfstat command enables or disables the sampling mechanism. The prfstat command has the following format:

   /usr/sbin/prfstat [off | on [system_namelist]]
where system_namelist is a file of module names. The default system namelist for nonloadable modules is /stand/unix and the files in /etc/conf/mod.d are the system namelists for loadable modules. Profiler overhead is less than 3 percent as calculated for 2000 text addresses. If neither of the optional parameters is supplied, the status of the profiler is displayed. If the on parameter is supplied, the sampling mechanism is turned on. The opposite happens if off is supplied. If the profiler has not been initialized (loaded) with prfld, prfstat will do so when given the on option. With the off option, prfstat de-initializes the sampling mechanism and unlocks the loadable modules.
