Port does not respond

If your serial or parallel port does not respond:

  1. Verify that the parallel or serial card is properly seated:

    a.
Turn the power off and open the machine.

    b.
Remove and reseat the card in the bus.

  2. Run the Serial Manager and verify that the port is listed in your kernel configuration. Run the Device Configuration Manager to confirm that the parallel port is configured. See ``Viewing or updating hardware device configuration'' for more information.

  3. Verify that the card itself is correctly configured. Check the documentation provided with the card. If possible, try setting the card for a different configuration.

  4. The card might be defective. Try replacing it.
