The dmi2snmp mapper is implemented as a pair of daemons. dmi2snmp.commander handles command conversion, and dmi2snmp.trapper handles indications and traps. From the DMI Service Provider's perspective the daemons take the role of a management application. From the SNMP agent's perspective they are SMUX peers.
